“This work will be supported by the Manchester Urban Observatory based at the University of Manchester, which forms part of the UK Collaboratorium for Infrastructure and Cities. The Manchester Urban Observatory is a £1m funded real world infrastructure laboratory (grant number: EP/P016782/1), which comprises mobile environmental and health sensors, a real time open data platform and a living lab partnership. The Manchester Urban Observatory forms part of a network of interlinked urban infrastructure ‘observatories’, at sites across the UK, for the digital capture, mapping, sensing, monitoring, and testing of real urban infrastructure systems over the long term. It enables the investigation of complex interrelations and interactions of real systems with the environment, people and society. Deploying sensors across a variety of urban sites enables the digital capture, mapping, monitoring and testing of real cities and infrastructure at a variety of scales, over time. The proposed research will use [insert details] equipment from the Manchester Urban Observatory / Urban Observatory network, worth [insert value of saved investment]. It will also use the Manchester-I data platform to host and expose research data to a broad set of researchers and end-users in the urban field. Partnering with the Manchester Urban Observatory offers significant value for money in the context of this funding application.”
